Newcastle goes live with total maternity solution from Euroking

EuroKing Miracle’s Maternity System has gone live at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Newcastle chose EuroKing to be providers of their new maternity information system and CTG monitoring and archiving requirements.

EuroKing’s third generation MIS, E3, has been implemented across Newcastle’s Fetal Ultrasound, EPAC, Antenatal, Delivery, Postnatal and Neonatal departments and integrated with the Trusts existing ViewPoint system.

Via EuroKing’s Connect2 architecture, E3 has also been integrated with EuroKing’s CTG monitoring software, Trium, giving midwives the capability of monitoring up to 32 beds from one work station.

All data will now be captured electronically and immediately stored on the E3 mother and baby record, giving an up to date snapshot of mother and baby’s health at any time, providing Newcastle with a one stop maternity solution, recording the whole pathway from confirmation of pregnancy through to discharge to the Health Visitor.  

Because 20% of the pregnant women in Newcastle have shared care across Newcastle and Northumbria Trusts, it was vital both Trusts would be able to access a single, consistent record for these women.  E3’s Connect2 capability gives this functionality, allowing both Trusts instant access, in real time, to mother and baby’s records from within the hospital, and remotely, in the Community via GPRS.

EuroKing’s Connect2 platform gives E3 greater flexibility and allows the system to be tailored to fit the existing workflow patterns of both hospitals, rather than having to shoe-horn existing practices into an off the shelf system.

Through Connect2, EuroKing’s system will seamlessly integrate with PAS, PACS, CTG and NN4B.

To ensure a seamless transition, EuroKing archived all information stored on Newcastle’s existing McKesson Maternity System and migrated all open pregnancies. Users will be able to access previous records without having to log in from the new E3 system.

The introduction of E3 means the Trust will be able to automatically run audits to assist with CNST reporting and report on admissions for PbR.

Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation is one of a growing number of hospitals to choose E3.  Barking Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust signed up to E3 earlier this year. The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust Leicester appointed EuroKing in October 2007 and King’s College successfully went live with E3 in June 2007.

In December 2006, E3 went live at Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust and in November 06 at one of the largest Trusts in the UK, The Heart of England NHS Trust.  In August this year, Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust launched a pioneering project to reduce perinatal mortality in high risk areas of Birmingham using E3 in the Community.
